On the evening of September 13, Yunnan Aluminum Co., Ltd. announced that the company and its subordinate electrolytic aluminum enterprises have recently received the "Notice on Emergency Start of Electrolytic Aluminum Energy Management" from the power supply department. Energy management is carried out in the tank mode, and the electricity load is reduced by 10% before September 14.
According to the news, due to the low water level of some reservoirs in Yunnan and the shortage of electricity during the dry season in the province, the electrolytic aluminum industry in Yunnan Province has entered a power rationing mode from September 10. In addition to Yunnan Aluminum Co., Ltd., electrolytic aluminum companies such as Yunnan Qiya and Shenhuo Co., Ltd. have also received relevant notices.
It is worth mentioning that the intensifying European energy crisis has not only greatly pushed up energy prices, but also has an impact on the supply of electrolytic aluminum. On September 6, Aluminium Dunkerque, France's largest aluminum smelter, announced a 22% cut in production in response to rising electricity costs. Cinda Futures pointed out that nearly half of the aluminum production in Europe has been forced to suspend production. It is reported that the electricity cost of 1 ton of electrolytic aluminum in Germany reached US$4,200 last week, far exceeding the aluminum price, and the aluminum plant is in deep loss.
Galaxy Securities believes that due to the continuous high temperature, drought, lack of rain and other factors in Yunnan since July, the inflow of water has dropped sharply. Overseas, the escalation of the European energy crisis and the frequent occurrence of strikes have raised the risk of reducing the production capacity of electrolytic aluminum in Europe. The reduction in production of electrolytic aluminum due to energy sources at home and abroad will support the price of electrolytic aluminum.
