Nespresso is reportedly sponsoring Planet Ark’s National Recycling Week, to be held till Sunday, November 17, to help dispel common myths around recycling as the theme of the event this year is ‘Recycling Mythbusters.’
According to the report, Nespresso will particularly, work on clearing doubts on coffee sustainability from sourcing, production and extraction to recycling of aluminium and coffee grounds at the event.
Nespresso sources 94 per cent of its coffee through AAA Sustainable Quality Programme. In Australia, it established a recycling scheme as well centred around a purpose-built facility in Nowra on the NSW south coast to enable its customers to recycle their capsules across 22,000 drop-off locations.
The reports states that Nespresso is also teaming with leading waste expert and director of UNSW Centre of Sustainable Materials Research and Technology, Veena Sahajwalla, to explore ways to reform aluminium in coffee capsules for the reuse.
Nespresso marketing and communications manager, Jeff Wong said, “The company was delighted to be sponsoring National Recycling Week for the second year.”
“It is an important moment for us to come together and raise awareness of recycling options and drive behavioural change as we move towards a waste-free future,” Wong added.
Recently, Nespresso unveiled a bike RE:CYCLE developed from its recycle aluminium capsules. This definitely definitely sets an example for the recycling potential of billions of single-use coffee pods discarded every year.
According to the Swiss company, “National Recycling Week is an excellent way of getting people thinking, talking and taking action on recycling and we are looking forward to working with Planet Ark to promote the initiative.”
